How to make a Wi-Fi QR code

Print the code, stick it on your router, hang it in your cafe or coworking — guests will connect in a second without asking for the password.

Enter network name and password

Copy the SSID and password exactly as they appear on your router or settings. Both are case-sensitive.

Pick encryption type

In 99% of cases choose WPA/WPA2. WEP only if your router is very old. Pick "No password" for open guest networks.

Download and print

Save the QR as PNG, add a "Wi-Fi: your_network" label, and print on a sticker or sign.

Why use a Wi-Fi QR code

For cafes, bars and Airbnbs

Print a small card at the entrance once — and stop dictating long passwords. iPhone and Android connect straight from the camera app.

At home for family and guests

Stick a QR on the router — no one mixes up Latin letters and digits anymore. Your password stays strong, but joining stays painless.

Classroom, office, coworking

Share Wi-Fi with the whole room — put a QR on the projector or handout. No chat spam, no copy-pasting in messengers.

Wi-Fi QR Code FAQ

Which phones support Wi-Fi QR codes?

iPhone with iOS 11 and newer recognizes a Wi-Fi QR straight from the Camera app — a "Join network" prompt appears. Android 10 and newer handles it in the stock camera or QR scanner. Older devices can use any QR scanner app.

Is it safe to encode a password in a QR?

A Wi-Fi QR contains the password in plain form — anyone who sees the code can join the network. That is fine for cafes, guest networks, or home use. If you are worried, set up a separate guest network on your router and make a QR only for that one.

Which encryption type should I pick — WPA or WEP?

Almost always WPA (also known as WPA2 or WPA3) — that is the modern standard. WEP only survives on very old routers and is considered insecure. If your network has no password, choose "No password".

What is a "hidden network" and why the checkbox?

A hidden network is a Wi-Fi that does not appear in the list of nearby networks — you can only join it by knowing its name. If your router has SSID broadcasting disabled, tick "Hidden network", otherwise the phone will not find it even with the right password.
