About removing audio from a video

This tool removes every audio stream from a video and creates a silent copy. It does not merely turn the volume down: the downloaded file contains no audio track at all.

Whenever the source format allows it, the video stream is copied without re-encoding, so the image quality stays identical and processing is fast. If the source codec cannot be copied safely, the tool automatically creates a compatible H.264 MP4 instead.

The entire operation runs in your browser with ffmpeg.wasm. The video is not sent to a server, no watermark is added, and no registration is required. This makes the tool suitable for private and work recordings.

When a silent video is useful

Prepare footage for social media

Remove the original sound before adding music, narration or captions in another editor.

Hide private conversations

Share the picture without accidentally including voices, names or other sensitive background audio.

Create clean presentation footage

Use a silent product demo, screen recording or background loop without distracting ambient noise.

Fix a clip with unusable sound

Remove wind, distortion or loud background noise when the visual part is still worth keeping.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove audio from a video?

Add your MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file, choose “Remove audio” and download the silent copy when it is ready. There is no need to select or edit individual audio tracks.

Does the tool mute the sound or remove it completely?

It removes all audio streams completely. The result has no audio track, so the original sound cannot be turned back on in a player.

Will removing audio reduce the video quality?

Usually no: the tool first tries to copy the original video stream unchanged. If that is not compatible with the container, it falls back to a high-quality H.264 MP4.

Is the video uploaded anywhere?

No. ffmpeg.wasm processes the file locally in your browser. Neither the source video nor the silent result is uploaded to a server.

Which formats are supported?

You can use MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV files up to 300 MB. The tool keeps the original container when possible and otherwise downloads a compatible MP4.
