Your text never leaves your browser — translation runs locally via the Bergamot neural network.

What is in-browser PDF translation?

Convertilo translates PDF documents locally through the Bergamot neural network — the same one embedded in Firefox. You upload a PDF, we extract the text, translate it, and show it side-by-side with the original page-by-page. Your document never leaves your browser — critical for contracts, medical records, legal documents.

About PDF translation

PDF translation in Convertilo runs in three stages: text extraction via PDF.js, translation through Bergamot WASM neural network, side-by-side rendering. Supports 16 languages, direct models for en↔ru and en↔uk. Other pairs pivot through English. Files up to 30 MB.

How translation works

  • Text extraction from PDF via PDF.js — page by page, preserving structure
  • Translation by Bergamot neural network (Marian NMT) through WebAssembly in browser
  • Side-by-side view: PDF page thumbnail next to the translation
  • Download translation as TXT with page-level markup
  • File and text are not sent to our servers

PDF Translation FAQ

Where does my PDF go during translation?

Nowhere. The file is read in your browser, text is extracted locally, translation runs through a WebAssembly neural network. We see neither the PDF nor the translation.

Is PDF layout preserved after translation?

No, the translation is text-only. We show the translation next to the original page in side-by-side view. Producing a translated PDF with preserved layout is a high-complexity task; commercial engines handle that.

Which languages are supported?

English, Russian, Ukrainian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Czech, Portuguese, plus 6 more. Direct pairs: en↔ru, en↔uk. Others pivot through English.

What is the maximum PDF size?

30 MB. Large documents (200+ pages) take longer but without server-side limits — everything runs locally.

Can I download the translation?

Yes, as TXT with page-level markup. DOCX export is on the roadmap.
