Online Microphone Test

Check whether your microphone works, watch the live input level, record a short sample and play it back instantly.

Run a quick sound check

Allow microphone access, then say a few words. Recording will not start automatically.

Audio is processed locally in your browser and is never uploaded to a server.

How the microphone test works

After you grant access, the page connects to the selected audio input and displays its volume in real time. If the meter moves while you speak, the browser is receiving a microphone signal.

A short sample checks more than signal presence: play it back to hear volume, background noise, crackling and whether the correct device is selected. You can repeat the recording at any time.

The test uses the Web Audio API and MediaRecorder. Audio stays in the current tab's memory and disappears when you close or reload the page.

What this test checks

Input signal

A live meter confirms whether voice is arriving from the selected microphone.

Actual sound quality

Record a short sample to hear volume, background noise and distortion.

Correct device

Switch between a built-in mic, headset and external audio inputs.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check whether my microphone works?

Allow access and say a few words. If the level meter moves and the status says your microphone is working, a signal is coming through. Then record and play a short sample.

Is my voice uploaded to a server?

No. Signal analysis, recording and playback all happen locally in your browser. We do not upload or store the audio.

Why does the test detect no sound?

Check browser permission, the system input level and the selected device. Close apps that may be using the microphone, then reconnect it.

Can I select another microphone?

Yes. Once permission is granted, the browser reveals available audio inputs. Pick your headset, built-in or external microphone from the list.

Does the microphone test work on phones?

Yes, in current Chrome and Safari versions. The page must use HTTPS and you need to approve microphone access in the system prompt.
