Country-specific photo sizes

Choose a country and document

Photo size: 50.8 × 50.8 mm

PDF sheet: 12 photos on US Letter (8.5×11 in)

Required background: Plain white or off-white

Submission type: Printed photo

Crown-to-chin height: 25–35 mm

This preset is for a printed 50.8×50.8 mm (2×2 in) photo: head height from chin to crown is 25–35 mm, the background is plain white or off-white, and the photo must be unaltered. Online passport renewal uses a separate upload and validation flow; output compatibility is not guaranteed.

Background editing and retouching are disabled. The tool still crops the image and encodes the result as JPEG, so the source photo must already have an opaque background that meets the authority’s rules.

Passport and visa photo sizes by country

Each preset changes the crop ratio, nominal print dimensions, background note and sheet layout for the selected document.

Prepare a passport or visa photo for printing

Choose a country and document to set the crop ratio and nominal print dimensions. The page also shows known composition and background notes for that preset, with a link to the issuing authority when one is available.

Move or resize the crop without changing its aspect ratio. Background tools appear only for profiles that are not marked as requiring an unaltered photo; you should still verify that the receiving authority permits the edit.

Download a single JPG or create a PDF sheet whose page and photo boxes have physical dimensions. The photo is processed locally in your browser and is not uploaded. The guide and output do not guarantee that an authority will accept the photograph.

What the tool can help with

Country-specific cropping

Select a passport, ID or visa profile to lock the crop to its listed dimensions instead of estimating the aspect ratio.

Comparing document formats

Switch between profiles such as 26×32, 35×45, 50×60, 50×70 and 2×2 inches while keeping each document's notes visible.

Private local preparation

Crop and build the PDF in the browser without uploading the source portrait to the service.

Passport photo tool FAQ

Does the tool guarantee that my photo will be accepted?

No. It sets the selected crop dimensions and can prepare a print PDF, but it cannot verify identity, pose, lighting, recency, image quality or local application rules. Always review the linked official source before applying.

Which sizes and composition rules are included?

The profiles include Spain 26×32 mm, an Italian passport profile at 35×40 mm, an Italian CIE profile at a minimum of 35×45 mm, Russia and the UK at 35×45 mm, Türkiye 50×60 mm, Canada 50×70 mm, the United States 2×2 inches and a standard 35×45 mm Schengen profile. For the Russian preset, the current Interior Ministry rule states that the head may occupy no more than 80% of the photo height and the space above it is 5 ± 1 mm. Other profiles show their published head, face or eye-line guidance where available.

Can the tool replace the background?

Only when the selected profile does not categorically prohibit digital changes. Background controls are disabled for authorities that require an unaltered photo. For every other profile, check the official instructions before using automatic or brush editing.

Should I print the JPG or the PDF?

Use the PDF sheet when physical size matters: its page and photo boxes are defined in print units. A single JPG has a known pixel count, but software or printer settings can scale it. Print the PDF at 100% or Actual Size and disable Fit to Page.

Is it secure? Where does my photo go?

Cropping, optional background processing and PDF generation run locally in your browser. The source photo is not uploaded to the service. Your browser may download application code or a background-processing model, but those downloads do not contain your photo.
