How to make a passport photo
This tool prepares a photo for printing on a document: passport, Schengen visa, US visa, driving license and most other ID documents. Supported standard sizes are 35×45 mm (most common in Europe and the Russian Federation), 3×4 cm, 4×6 cm, 5×5 cm and 2×2 inch (US visa, DS-160).
An AI segmentation network (ISNet) automatically separates the subject from the background and replaces the background with clean white — exactly what most international ICAO standards and US Department of State requirements expect. You can pick another color (light blue is sometimes accepted) or skip background replacement entirely and just crop the original.
Download a single photo at print resolution, or generate a ready-to-print A4 sheet (PDF or JPG, 300 dpi) with several copies and faint cut lines. All processing happens in your browser — the photo is never uploaded.
When this is useful
International passport (RU)
35×45 mm with white background per GOST R 51141. Suitable for online submission via Gosuslugi or in-person at MFC.
Schengen visa
All Schengen consulates accept 35×45 mm with a plain light background. Make at home, print at any photo lab, glue into your application.
US / Canada visa
DS-160 requires a 2×2 inch (50.8×50.8 mm or 5×5 cm) square. The size is in the presets — pick it and crop.
Driving license, ID card
Most internal IDs and driving licenses use a 3×4 cm format. Build an A4 sheet with 9 copies and print at home.
FAQ
What sizes are supported?
All major formats are in the presets: 35×45 mm (international passport, Schengen, most European IDs), 3×4 cm (internal RU passport, driving license), 4×6 cm (some work IDs), 5×5 cm and 2×2 inch (US/Canada visa, DS-160). Aspect ratio is strictly preserved — the crop frame keeps it locked.
Can I get a white background automatically?
Yes. The default 'Auto (white background)' mode runs the ISNet AI model — the same technology behind remove.bg or Photoroom — to separate the subject from any background and replace it with clean white. If automation misfires, switch to manual mode and just crop the original.
Is the photo suitable for an RU passport?
Yes — 35×45 mm per GOST R 51141 is the standard for biometric and old-style international passports. Output is JPEG at 300 dpi on a white background. For acceptance the framing must follow regulations: head fills 70–80% of height, face looking straight. Use the on-screen oval guide to align the head.
How do I print on A4?
Click 'A4 sheet with N copies' — the tool builds a PDF or JPG layout at 300 dpi with thin cut lines between copies. An A4 fits about 9 copies of 3×4 cm, 6 copies of 35×45 mm, or 4 copies of 4×6 cm. Print at any photo lab or home photo printer, then cut along the lines.
Is it secure? Where does my photo go?
Nowhere. All operations — cropping, AI background removal, A4 layout — run in JavaScript and WebAssembly inside your browser. You can verify in DevTools (Network tab): after the one-time model download (~40 MB, cached forever) no requests carry your photo.
