About the England and Wales court fee calculator

HM Courts & Tribunals Service charges an issue fee when a civil claim is started. For a money claim, the fee is based on the amount claimed plus interest: fixed bands apply up to £10,000, then 5% applies up to £200,000, with a £10,000 fee above that value.

The calculator also covers the main fixed issue fees for possession and other non-money claims in the County Court and High Court, plus the filing fee for common civil appeal notices. The figures follow the HMCTS EX50 table updated on 13 July 2026.

The result is the issue or filing fee for the selected action, not the full cost of litigation. A hearing fee or later application and enforcement fees may also become payable. Scotland and Northern Ireland operate separate court-fee systems.
