About the average calculator
The average, or arithmetic mean, is the sum of all your values divided by how many values there are. It's the most common way to summarize a set of numbers such as grades, prices, or measurements.
Beyond the mean, this calculator also returns the median, sum, count, minimum and maximum, so you get a complete snapshot of your data set in a single step.
Everything is calculated instantly right in your browser — your numbers are never uploaded or stored, so the computation stays completely local and private.
Benefits
More than the mean
Along with the average you immediately see the median, sum, count, minimum and maximum.
Flexible input
Type numbers separated by commas, spaces, or new lines — the calculator reads them either way.
Private and instant
Calculations run in your browser with no data sent to a server, and results update as you type.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the average?
Add up all the numbers and divide the total by how many there are. For 10, 20 and 30 the sum is 60, divided by 3 gives an average of 20.
What's the difference between the mean and the median?
The mean is the sum divided by the count, while the median is the middle value of the sorted list. The median is less affected by extreme outliers.
How should I enter the numbers?
List your numbers separated by commas, spaces, or new lines, for example "10, 20, 30, 40". The calculator detects the separators automatically.
Can I use decimals and negative numbers?
Yes. The calculator supports decimal values and negative numbers, so you can average any real numbers you enter.
Is my data saved anywhere?
No. All calculations happen locally in your browser, so your numbers are never sent to a server or stored.
