Paint Calculator
Paint consumption for walls, ceilings, and facades: weight in kg and liters by area and number of coats. Water-based, acrylic, and enamel paints supported.
Wall, ceiling, or facade area in m²
How many coats of paint you will apply
Default 150 g/m² — typical consumption for one coat
Calculation formula
Weight = Area × Coats × Consumption ÷ 1000; Liters = Weight ÷ 1.35
Consumption is in grams per square meter per coat; average paint density is around 1.35 kg/L.
About the paint calculator
The paint calculator tells you how many kilograms and liters of paint to buy for a given area — a room's walls, a ceiling, a house facade, or radiators. You only need the surface area, the number of coats, and the consumption per square meter.
By default the calculator uses 150 g/m² per coat and a density of 1.35 kg/L — typical values for water-based and acrylic interior paint. Enamel and facade paints often have higher consumption — check the label and enter your own value.
All math runs in your browser, with no data sent to a server. Add 10–15% on top for cuts, touch-ups, and uneven absorption.
Benefits
Instant calculation
Weight in kilograms and volume in liters appear the moment you change area or coats.
Any paint type
Type the consumption from the can label — water-based, acrylic, latex, alkyd enamel, or facade paint.
Accurate volume in liters
Conversion from kilograms to liters at an average paint density — handy for buying 1 L, 2.5 L, or 10 L cans.
FAQ
What is paint consumption per square meter?
On average 130–160 g/m² per coat over a properly prepared surface. Porous substrates (bare concrete or unprimed render) push it up to about 200 g/m².
What is the difference between paint types?
Water-based and acrylic paints are for indoor walls and ceilings, with no smell. Alkyd enamels are for metal and wood — tougher but solvent-based. Facade paints are UV- and weather-resistant.
How many coats of paint do I need?
Two coats is the standard — the first evens out absorption, the second gives a uniform color. Three coats are needed for contrasting substrates or repainting dark over light.
Are primer and paint counted together?
No, primer is calculated separately and has its own consumption (usually 100–150 g/m²). Primer reduces the consumption of the topcoat and is required on concrete, gypsum, and filler.
